Functional Responsibilities
- Participate in the development of
policies and guidelines to govern collaboration with multilateral,
bilateral and non-governmental agencies
- Collaborate with Ministry of Health to
identify donors for the health sector and service
- Ensure that current and prospective
donors to the sector have access to adequate information about the
policies of the GHS and its priority needs
- Collaborate with the Divisions to develop
and review proposals for external funding for the Ghana Health Service
- Develop systems for the monitoring and
evaluation of externally-funded programmes and projects which are
consistent with the Ghana Health Service’s own framework for monitoring
and evaluation
- To lead in formulating strategic service
and investment plans.
- Carry out trends assessment for Ghana
Health Service by drawing on relevant sources of information to analyse
the overall performance of Ghana Health Service and monitor progress in
implementing key polices
To enhance
the functions outlined above, the Policy Department will have the following
Sections:
a. Health Systems
Development Section
The
main function of this Section will be to translate policies into operational
and strategic plans. It will also review existing policies, strategies and
systems of service delivery. Key among the functions will be a focus on special
initiatives that are under the purview of the Director General and the
preparation of mid-year and annual progress reports.
b. Gender and Inequalities Section
This
Section will focus on drawing up strategic direction for issues on Gender and
Inequalities. It will also provide the GHS focus in the Ghana Poverty Reduction
Strategy Framework.
c. Inter-sectoral Collaboration Section
This
section will be responsible for developing strategies for engaging the private
sector and other sectors in achieving the goals of the service.
