Update on the Influenza A(H1N1) Situation From Ministry of Health, Ghana Update15

The reported outbreaks of influenza A(H1N1) in humans continue to evolve rapidly. WHO has recommended that the new virus be officially called influenza A(H1N1), instead of swine influenza. This is to reflect an important fact: though this new virus originated in pigs, it is a human virus now and current concerns are with person to person transmission. Transmission of this virus from pigs to humans is not a major public health concern at this point  |

Brainstorm on Millennium Development Goals (MDG)

Dr George Amofah, Director of Public Health of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), on Monday called for linkages among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in efforts to reduce child mortality and promote maternal health in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).
He said, the MDG aimed at reducing child mortality by two-thirds and maternal mortality by three-quarters by 2015 could not be achieved without the collaboration of the MDAs.

SSNIT Contributors to start benefiting from the NH

Dr Sam Adjei, Acting Director-General, Ghana Health Service (GHS), said a number of activities including the development of a GHS medium-term strategic plan were undertaken in 2004 to effectively deal with the challenges of the scheme and to provide maximum support to move the NHIS forward.
